With a 99% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, Strange New Worlds season 1 was one of the best-received Star Trek projects in recent years. Strange New Worlds’ episodic format has been a breath of fresh air that allows the show to tell all manner of Star Trek stories while developing its winning cast of characters, led by Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romjin as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Lt. Spock. Strange New Worlds season 2 premieres Thursday, June 15th, on Paramount+ in the United States.
The season 1 finale of Strange New Worlds ended with a shocking cliffhanger that could permanently change Captain Pike’s USS Enterprise: the arrest of Number One AKA Commander Una Chin-Riley because she lied to Starfleet about being a genetically engineered Illyrian. Further, Strange New Worlds‘ finale introduced one of Star Trek’s greatest icons, Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley), setting up his Strange New Worlds season 2 return in a recurring role as the younger Lt. Kirk. On April 19th, Paramount+ released the first teaser trailer for Strange New Worlds season 2 set to the song “Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service.
Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode Titles & Release Dates
The titles and premiere dates of all 10 episodes of Strange New Worlds season 2 are as follows:

Some clues as to what’s to come in Strange New Worlds season 2 from those episode titles include “Hegemony” possibly being about the Gorn, as their civilization is known as the Gorn Hegemony. “Under the Cloak of War” certainly sounds straightforward and ominous, and “Ad Astra Per Aspera” is Latin for “To the Stars With Difficulty.” Episode 2 of Strange New Worlds season 2 will deal with the court-martial of Number One.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Cast
The entire cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is returning for season 2, including Anson Mount as Captain Pike, Ethan Peck as Lt. Spock, Rebecca Romijn as Number One AKA Commander Una Chin-Riley, Christina Chong as Lt. La’an Noonien Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Ensign Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. Joseph M’Benga. Uhura has notably been promoted from Starfleet Cadet to Ensign as she remains on the Starship Enterprise in Strange New Worlds season 2.
The two newest additions to the Strange New Worlds season 2 cast are Paul Wesley, who will portray Lt. James T. Kirk, and Carol Kane, who plays the Enterprise’s new Chief Engineer, Commander Pelia. Dan Jeannotte also reprises his recurring role as Lt. Sam Kirk, who may not be glad to see his younger brother, Jim, on the Enterprise. Melanie Scrofano is also back as Captain Batel, who is Captain Pike’s girlfriend, Adrian Holmes reprises Admiral Robert April, and Gia Sandhu returns as Spock’s Vulcan fiancée, T’Pring. In addition, Bruce Horak is rumored to return as a new character after Chief Engineer Hemmer’s noble death in Strange New Worlds
Another new Strange New Worlds season 2 character is Chief Jay, played by Noah Lamanna. So far, nothing about their character has been revealed. It’s quite possible that Chief Jay could replace Chief Kyle (Andre Dae Kim) as the Enterprise’s Transporter Chief. Adelaide Kane, best known for Grey’s Anatomy, has also been cast in Strange Worlds season 2 for one episode, but it is unknown what her role will be. And perhaps the most important ‘character’ in Strange New Worlds is the Starship Enterprise itself, which gets a new bar in season 2 for the crew to congregate in.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Story Details
Strange New Worlds season 2 will resolve season 1’s cliffhanger and two major exits from the Starship Enterprise in order to bring both Number One and Lt. La’an Noonien-Singh, who resigned her Starfleet commission, back aboard. Una’s trial will take place in Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 2, “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” and however that shakes out in regard to her rights as a genetically engineered Illyrian, Number One will take her place as the Enterprise’s First Officer again.

Speaking of Spock, the Vulcan shares a passionate kiss with Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) in Strange New Worlds season 2, which could lead to the end of his engagement to T’Pring. Strange New Worlds season 2 will also delve into the backstories of Nurse Chapel and Dr. Joseph M’Benga. Finally, Lt. Erica Ortegas is also finally going to have her history explored, which includes how the Enterprise’s hotshot helmsman was a war veteran, possibly of Star Trek: Discovery‘s Klingon War. Along with seeing how new Chief Engineer Pelia fits into the Enterprise, there is plenty of character development and intrigue to come in Strange New Worlds season 2.
Strange New Worlds Is Crossing Over With Star Trek: Lower Decks
One of the most anticipated events in Strange New Worlds season 2 is the crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks. The crossover, which is directed by Jonathan Frakes, is episode 7 of Strange New Worlds season 2, titled “Those Old Scientists.” The title is a joke from Lower Decks season 1 explaining what the “TOS” abbreviation stands for in Star Trek canon. In the crossover episode, Lower Decks stars Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome will portray their animated series Ensigns, Bradward Boimler and Beckett Mariner, in live-action. Frakes calls the crossover a “flat-out comedy” and promises there will also be animated sequences in the episode, which features dialogue by Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan.
Strange New Worlds‘ crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, and it’s one of the creative “big swings” showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers promise for season 2. Perhaps even “bigger swings” are the 9th and 10th episodes of Strange New Worlds season 2, which the cast and creative team are keeping mum about, but they hint are even wilder than the Lower Decks crossover. It’s unlikely fans will feel Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 will lack boldness when all is said and done.
