Hope hasn’t gotten over her B&B ex-husband. And we’re not sure she should.
This week on The Bold and the Beautiful we find Hope Logan professing her feelings for new and improved Thomas yet again. Her faith persists in the wake of Thomas’s big reveal that he was at the scene when Emma Barber died. She uses a lot of psych 101 phrases about “Thomas putting in the work” to show he has changed. What we still don’t hear — even with that heavy ring on a chain around her neck — is the “L” word. That’s because Hope still loves Liam.
Hope Logan 2.0
Since her hasty divorce from Liam (Scott Clifton), Hope (Annika Noelle) is on a mission to prove to the world that she is her own woman. She chopped off her flowing hair. She indulges in a potentially dangerous affair with Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), a man of questionable character. Hope won’t listen to the concerns of Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang). She certainly won’t listen to Liam.
Hope’s insistence on living her life her way now seems a bit like a rebellious teenager. The more everyone in her world warns her about this entanglement with Thomas, the more she defends him. Imagine if Hope’s inner circle weren’t so vocal against Thomas. If they said, “He’s great, snatch him up before you lose him!,” would she still be so defiantly committed to him? Hmm.
Hope’s Payback to Liam
Underneath Hope’s “newfound sense of self” seems to be a whole lot of pain about her breakup with Liam. When Liam shows up at the cabin just as she is readying herself for a rendezvous with Thomas, this is plain to see. If Hope were really moving on in a reasonable way, she would feel bad for her ex catching her dressed in lingerie for another man. Instead, Hope almost taunts Liam with it, like it’s payback for making her feel like number two to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). This shows that her feelings for Liam are far from resolved. It still looks like an open wound.
Liam did cause Hope emotional suffering in their marriage. Still, Hope didn’t have to worry about Liam’s mental health or sort of causing her friend’s death. Somewhere in the back of Hope’s mind, she has to be concerned about Thomas’s role in Emma losing her life. Never mind Thomas’s hiding the fact that baby Beth was alive, which we still can’t understand how she got past.
Hope’s interest in Thomas is not for Thomas himself. It’s either about making Liam feel like number two, or it’s about Thomas giving Hope what Liam didn’t. Sorry Thomas fans: for Hope, it’s still all about Liam.
