Jack Axelrod, best known for his recurring roles on General Hospital, My Name Is Earl, and Grey’s Anatomy has died. He was 93.
As confirmed by his rep, Jennifer Garland, the Los Angeles-based actor passed on November 28 of natural causes He had retired a scant three years before.
To fans of ABC’s General Hospital, Axelrod is best known for playing mafioso Victor Jerome, father to Dino, Evan, Julian, Olivia, and Ava (Maura West), the latter of whom remains on the canvas to this day, carrying on the family legacy. Victor’s unrequited lust for Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) saw him petulantly swallow the locket he’d purchased for her resulting in his death from choking and bringing an end to Axelrod’s two-year tenure which had begun in 1987.
His plethora of other TV credits include roles on Hill Street Blues, Dallas, Dynasty
Axelrod, a licensed architect, broke into the acting business via a small part in the Woody Allen film Bananas. In subsequent years he could be seen on the big screen in flicks such as Hancock, Little Fockers, J Edgar, and The Lone Ranger.
