Star Trek: Infinite, an upcoming strategy game set a few decades before Star Trek: The Next Generation, has been announced with an exciting teaser trailer at Summer Game Fest 2023. The full reveal for the game will take place, fittingly, on Picard Day, June 16, 2023, but already the teaser trailer has caused some hype. Star Trek: Infinite‘s debut announcement comes less than one month after the interactive narrative game Star Trek: Resurgence was released.

Star Trek: Infinite will take place at an as-of-yet-unspecified date, confirmed to be a few decades before TNG on the Trek timeline, and Captain Picard himself is featured in the promotional artwork, suggesting that he may play a significant role.

The game will let players take control of one of the four biggest powers in the Star Trek galaxy and present difficult choices for players as they can contact other worlds. Playing as either the United Federation of Planets, Romulan Star Empire, Cardassian Union, or the Klingon Empire, prospective commanders will have to strategize and navigate their way through the game.

The trailer teases some familiar-sounding types of hostile interactions between a Federation ship and the Borg. Until more is revealed about the game, it is unclear if it will be played as more of a 4x game similar to Civilization

Star Trek is a franchise that demands quality from developers. Star Trek has a rich history with immense amounts of lore spread across generations of content. Not many details have been revealed yet on the new Star Trek: Infinite game, but from the bits shown in the trailer, it appears to be an impressive game. If developers can truly live up to the expectations that fans of the series have, and which the trailer presents, then Star Trek: Infinite could prove to be an amazing piece of entertainment.

Star Trek: Infinite will release on PC and Mac sometime in Fall 2023.
