In the latest instalment of CBS’s hit spin-off, which has been cancelled by the network after 14 seasons, the team delved into an old case from 20 years ago. Thankfully, newcomer agent Daisy Van Sant (played by Rose Abdoo) was able to assist the NCIS: Los Angeles team and several fans are already convinced a new spin-off starring the guest star could be in the works.
Some hopeful NCIS fans have suggested Abdoo could lead her own offshoot after her stellar debut in season 14 episode 17, Maybe Today.
With just a few episodes left of the season, there’s not long left before G Callen (Chris O’Donnell), Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and the rest of the team bring their stories to a close.
Thankfully, the flagship NCIS show and new spin-off NCIS: Hawaii aren’t going anywhere, but could the LA-based team still continue in some form?
Following Sunday night’s gripping new mission, there have already been calls from several fans to bring back Abdoo’s Agent Van Sant for her own series.
On Twitter, @sjstiers said: “Nice overall ep tonight. Can’t help but think there’s another spin-off in the works.
“Daisy would be an interesting boss! NCIS: Cold Case perhaps?”
To which @klassivangie replied: “I was thinking the same! Oh is it possibly going to come true? Well, we hope!”
@BookConvos added: “This could have been a backdoor spin-off pilot for NCIS: Cold Case!”
“We are betting NCIS LA: Cold Case is a new spin-off from tonight’s show. It was good tonight, love the new character,” @Canadia17815459 wrote.
And @SnoopGirlZ added: “This episode had spin-off for Daisy’s cold cases written all over it.”
Over on Reddit, Hypestyles commented: “Seems like the cold case agent was set up to continue next season, but of course, the show is being cancelled.
“I don’t know, maybe it was a soft pilot for another spin-off. CBS already had a Cold Case show years ago. So is it being revived under the NCIS brand?”
Sadly, the series was cancelled midway through production on its 14th outing, so it’s hard to know which storylines would potentially lead into future seasons.
However, the franchise is certainly not averse to spinning-off popular characters, with NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Hawaii both proving to be huge hits for CBS.
Even if Van Sant doesn’t cross paths with the LA team again, could fans start seeing her popping up more often in the current shows?
In the meantime, the agents will have their hands full in next week’s episode, Sensu Latu.
A synopsis reads: “The NCIS team must investigate when a Navy reservist is stabbed and his lab full of pesticides and insects is ransacked.
Hollace Kilbride (Gerald McRaney) offers Sam the interim operations manager position; Devin Rountree (Caleb Castille) thinks about his future.
